There's just something about Autumn... Maybe it's the chill in the air, the earthy smell of falling leaves mixed up in the crisp breeze and sunshine, or maybe it's the nostalgia of childhood trips to bonfires or trick or treating. For me, Autumn has always felt magic.
As the darkness creeps in it brings with it ancient secrets, strange traditions and a feeling of other worldliness, a connection to something mystical that is only felt at this time of year. It's the crescendo of nature, the bursting forth of pumpkins, the colourful bounty of the harvest and the kaleidoscope of leaves that feels magic, but also the whisper of death in the wind. As the leaves decay in the streets and the gutters we can't help but notice the beauty in darkness.
For many of us Dark Hearts, All Hallow's Eve is most certainly the jewel in the Autumnal crown. Born from Samhain (Summer's End), All Hallow's Eve marks the end of the light days and the beginning of the darkness. It's is also believed that on October 31st, the day before All Saint's day, the veil between us and the spirit world is thinnest. As a kid I was always beyond excited for Halloween, even though I rarely went anywhere! There was just something in the air, a feeling of being watched, of something hiding in the shadows... of magic, waiting.
