The go-with-the-flow stone

Larimar is a stone of calm and tranquility, like many other blue stones, but can also help you to take control of life by removing fear and helping you adopt a go-with-the-flow attitude. What is it?

Larimar is a volcanic stone and a form of a crystal called Pectolite. Although Pectolite is quite abundant on Earth and is found on most continents, blue Pectolite, aka Larimar, is extremely rare.

Where is it found?

Larimar is found only in the Dominican Republic. The stone had been known for a long time on the island and as it was often found in the sea and looks so much like dappled water it was thought to be formed in the sea. However, after the sea stones seemed to have 'dried up' in the 1970's local people began to search upstream and found a volcanic rock formation that appeared to be the source of the blue stone. A Dominican man called

Miguel Méndez named the rare stone after his daughter, Larissa, and the Spanish word for the sea, mar.

How tough is it?

5/10 on the Mohs scale.
